What Does an ENT Office Have To Do With Wellness?

Everything! Any provider, ENT or not, has a duty to his/her patients to adapt, evolve and tailor care to the individual needs of each patient. Weiss ENT started offering additional medical “wellness” services in 2021. We realized there was a need to offer additional means to support weight loss in our sleep apnea, snoring, and acid reflux patients. Increased weight is a notorious cause and aggravator of these conditions. While arranging sleep tests, writing CPAP orders and prescribing antacids, we started offering additional injectable GLP therapy. We recognized that recommending, “aim for a 100-lb weight loss goal” and providing accessible, affordable means to actually achieve that, were two, very different things!

As more and more patients began witnessing success with our semaglutide program, we realized a new problem– not every patient simply wants to lose weight. Some also want to gain lean muscle mass (or prevent muscle loss during weight loss), optimize vitamin intake, improve sleep quality, prevent osteopenia/osteoporosis, improve energy, etc.
We will now be offering additional vitamin, peptide, amino acid, and hormone support for our patients. The appropriate treatment plan will be tailored to each patient’s specific needs. Please ask your healthcare providers, a staff member, or call our office at

Peptides

A peptide is a short string of 2 to 50 amino acids. Longer peptide chains are known as polypeptides and even longer chains are known as proteins. Essentially, peptides are the building blocks of proteins. Peptides offer a variety of benefits.

Sermorelin, ipamorelin and CJC 1295 are peptides that stimulate the anterior pituitary gland to produce more Human Growth Hormone (HGH) on its own. HGH concentration reduces by approx. 15% every decade after the third decade of life. Because of this, HGH-stimulating peptides are popular anti-aging therapies and can help to:

  • Increase muscle mass
  • Improve skin elasticity
  • Increase bone density
  • Increase energy levels
  • Improved skin tone and texture
  • Increase metabolism and fat loss
  • Improve immune function
  • Improve sleep
  • Regulate mood
  • Increase libido

This peptide also mildly increases HGH like the peptides described above but has more marked effects of stimulating lipolysis and inhibiting lipogenesis–leading to accelerated fat burning.

Selank & Semax are nootropic peptides that reduce stress, regulate mood and provide neuroprotection to reduce oxidative stress on the brain to promote concentration and memory.

BPC-157, or Body Protective Compound, is naturally found in gastric secretions. It increases type 1 collagen and blood flow via angiogenesis, making it a powerful peptide for wound healing and musculoskeletal recovery. It is also used to treat gastrointestinal conditions, like gastritis and peptic ulcers.

Weight Loss

Excess weight has numerous negative health effects–from increased risk of certain ENT conditions, such as reflux and sleep apnea, to increased risk of heart attack, hypertension, stroke, dementia, diabetes, certain cancers, etc. This is not to mention the role of excess weight on mental health and quality of life. Read below for more info. (Certain peptide additions listed under the “Peptides” section also aid in fat loss.)

GLPs, or glucagon like peptides, are a family of injectable medications that are FDA-approved for weight loss and diabetic control. These medications delay gastric emptying, increase insulin sensitivity, and suppress appetite to promote weight loss. They are injected with small, insulin needles subcutaneously once weekly.

  • Tirzepatide

Lipotropic (fat breakdown) capsules or injections contain a solution of nutrients & amino acids that aid in fat loss naturally without the use of stimulants. Components (Methionine, Inositol, Choline, L-carnitine) are known to play key roles in utilizing and burning fat, optimizing cellular energy, and removing toxins from the body. These are used well by themselves or in conjunction with GLP injections to ensure “weight” is lost via adipose loss and not muscle loss.

  • Methionine — An essential amino-acid defends the body against toxic compounds and reduces fatty deposit buildup in the liver.
  • Inositol — Known as “Vitamin B8”, inositol is a sugar that promotes proper insulin and glucose regulation.
Choline – An essential nutrient that exports fat and bile from the liver and is responsible for detoxifying the liver during fat metabolism.
  • L-carnitine — An amino acid that aids transport of fatty acids into cell mitochondria to produce energy.

Wellness

B-12 and B-Complex vitamins help patients feel more energetic and also promote the metabolism of fats. B vitamin deficiencies can cause a variety of symptoms, including fatigue, headaches, depression, mental impairment, and inflammation of the mouth and tongue. When B-12 or B-Complex vitamins are injected into the bloodstream, absorption is optimized without the possibility of inefficient absorption by the gut.

Vitamin D is essential for bone density. Difficult to regulate via oral supplementation alone, Vitamin D injected intramuscularly reduces risk of osteoporosis and fractures.

A coenzyme that influences many key cellular functions, including metabolic pathways, DNA repair, cellular aging and immune cell function.

A substance that helps convert food into energy. CoQ10 is found in almost every cell in the body, and is a powerful antioxidant to prevent aging.

Amino acids are compounds that consist of hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon that are the building blocks of proteins. Amino acids are either classified as essential, nonessential or conditional. Essential amino acids are necessary to carry out the functions of daily life, and they need to be consumed regularly. Amino acids aid in a multitude of important functions but are important to promote healthy bone and muscle, improve immunity, support brain health, regulate weight, and more.

Testosterone

Low testosterone leads to reduced muscle mass, increased fat accumulation, depression, hair loss, reduced bone density, insomnia, reduced fertility and depressed libido in men and women. Testosterone numbers can be increased directly through injection, or indirectly via oral medications.
